Fishing Report April 2006

2006 is going to be a great year for striper fishing! The trend of releasing bigger fish has really spread around and we're already seeing the benefit. Alot of bigger fish have been showing up. Man, does it excite me about thinking about the near future where an average striper will be 13-15 pounds.

I always start my reports out with the following........Just want to say- since the water has cooled down, RELEASE THOSE BIGGER FISH IF YOU CAN. We need to get alot more 30-40 pounders and they ain't gonna make it if they're in a frying pan. Wait 'till summer to keep these fish, let 'em eat and get fat now, while they can. We finally got our bait situation back to where it needs to be and the stripers are getting fat like they're supposed to be.

April is here and the fish have been biting really well. It's been a big mix of freelines and light lines on planers and straight behind the boat. The stripers are eating both alewives and gizzards, so as long as you have bait, then you're in luck. Casting hasn't done so well yet, but it should be any day now.

Planer board action is here finally!

April 5 - We were scheduled to go the day before but rescheduled due to 20mph wind. But on our rescheduled day it was 40mph wind gusts. Hard to fish, but we caught 'em and had a blast. Whenever young'ins are catching 'em, its always fun!

April 6-9 Viva Las Vegas for my bachelor's party. Sorry, no reports or pictures available........

April 10- Great planer board action from 6am to 9am and then the sun pushed 'em down. These guys always bring good luck with 'em. Check out the fog on the water this morning. Beautiful planer board weather.

April 12 - Spanked 'em. We got a calm and cloudy day and the fish bit really well from 6am to noon. We even jigged 'em up. That's right, jiggin' up stripers in April!!! The fish were hitting both alewives and gizzards equally and most came off of planers.

April 13 and 14th. We had a ton of action with explosions and chases on planers all day long. The stripers are really showing off now. Planer board season is definitely here. Here's a nice 24 pound, 39.5 inch striper that got caught and released on the 14th.

April 15th - Putting kids on fish is always a blast....

April 17 - Cold and Drizzlin' rain. The fish were relatively active and playing with our baits the whole day, but they just weren't ready to feed. We did catch some nice fish though. Check out this picture of this 5 year old little girl with this 16 pounder. Awesome!!!
